The Gold Coast Jazz Band turns the musical clock back to the first thirty years of the 20th century, when the Golden Age of American Popular Song met the Jazz Age.  It’s music from ragtime to swing, tunes by Jelly Roll Morton, Louis and Lil Hardin Armstrong, Kid Ory, Joe “King” Oliver, Bix Beiderbecke, a young Duke Ellington and Benny Moten, and the great songwriters of Tin Pan Alley, Broadway and Hollywood. Since its formation by the late Phil and Jan Stiers in 1993, the Gold Coast Jazz Band has presented this uniquely American music with a hot n’ happy energy and style guaranteed to put a smile on your face, set your toes to tapping and feet to dancing. Phil used to say “the band’s followers have ‘Gold Coast-itis’, a condition thought by some to be incurable, whose symptoms are an uncontrollable urge to dance and smile a lot.” Now in it’s 26th year, Gold Coast music is just as infectious as ever.  On hand to play for TRAD JASS on June 2 will be Ed Foster, filling in for Ray Walker, on reeds, joining our regulars: Mark Lightner, trumpet;  Bill Badstubner, trombone; Candy Woodworth, tuba; Steven Radice, banjo & guitar; Peter Martin, piano; and Zane Woodworth, percussion & vocals.
